Details of experience:
Mr. Barry Parnell was admitted to Trevecca Center for Rehabilitation and Healing on November 14th from Vanderbilt Hospital. Mr. Parnell was in a car accident resulting in several fractures and would require skilled nursing care. Mr. Parnell suffered a right tibia and fibula fracture, along with rib fractures, traumatic pneumothorax, acute kidney injury, neuropathy, anemia, and a left clavicle head fracture along with a surgical wound. When Mr. Parnell arrived at Trevecca, he was welcomed by our team, each conducting their own assessments, to closely monitor his needs and progress to get him well, so he can return home.

Upon arrival, Mr. Parnell was admitted to our respiratory therapy unit. In this unit, Mr. Parnell’s vitals could be monitored closely and routinely. Additionally, Mr. Parnell had a surgical wound requiring treatment by our wound care team. This team quickly got to work assessing his wound and providing the treatment that he would need in order for the wound to properly heal. The wound to be assessed was on his right leg, a large abrasion. The wound quickly reduced in size and depth and is healing beautifully without infection.

Our therapy department worked closely with the patient to support strength training and retrain the legs movements. Mr. Parnell constantly challenged himself to reach his goals and worked hand-in-hand with the staff toward that end.

Mr. Parnell is known to our Trevecca community as his mother was a resident with us. He has constantly pushed himself to get better and to regain his strength. Mr. Parnell has participated in our activities programs and interacted with other residents. Although Mr. Parnell has been through a great deal, he still managed to keep staff laughing and smiling and remained a friendly face. We are so glad that he chose to heal at Trevecca Center for Rehabilitation and Healing.
